Here’s what you need to know for next Saturday:
What to Bring:
What to Expect:
When will I receive my Childs jersey/socks?
These will be distributed at the first session, please arrive a little earlier so that we can pass these out and then get started.
What should my child wear?
Weather appropriate athletic clothes, including shorts/sweatpants, long sleeve t-shirt or a sweatshirt. Ideally their jersey will be the outermost layer for easy identification.
What should I do during the session?
Bring a chair and watch from the sidelines. We do not allow parents to participate with their children, or leave them at the soccer field by themselves.
What if I have to miss a session?
There's no need to notify us in advance. Each team has 10-12 players and while we'd love for everyone to be at every session, if you have other obligations we obviously understand.
How long is each session?
We're aiming to be wrapped up after an hour each week. Obviously the more on time everyone is, the more time we'll have for soccer while still wrapping up by 9:30.
After a successful first season in the Fall, the MSC is making Soccer Cubs a permanent part of our offering.
For years we've allowed pre-school aged kids to join our league and play with their slightly older peers, but this was never a perfect solution. Additionally, lumping the kindergarten aged kids (many of whom are playing a sport for the first time) in with the first graders was also less than ideal. And finally, while the concept of joining your team for practice each week in advance of your teams game is a great skill to develop, trying to keep a dozen kindergarteners focused for an hour on a weeknight is more than a challenge.
To address all of these concerns, and continue to promote an appreciation for the sport by providing progressively higher levels of competition within a safe, supportive, teaching environment, we're continuing our Soccer Cubs Program.
To instill in our youngest players a sense of enthusiasm, self-confidence, good sportsmanship, and teamwork by emphasizing the game’s basic fundamentals.
Boys and girls currently enrolled in Pre-K through Kindergarten. If you have a Preschool aged child that you think is ready, they are also welcome to sign up.
Each week's session includes a skills session/practice led by Mayfield Boys and Girls Varsity players with instruction from the Varsity Coaching Staff, followed by a short guided scrimmage on a smaller field using pug (small pop-up) goals without goalies. Players are provided with a jersey and matching soccer socks, but will need to provide their own shin guards. Cleats are optional for this program. Every player will receive a medal to celebrate their participation in the last week.
The Spring season will start on April 12th 2025 and end May 31st. Sessions will take place Saturday mornings starting at 8:00am in Mayfield Village, alongside our Wildcat League.
Practices and Games will be played on Field 4 at Parkview Fields located by Progressive Campus on Rt. 91
